Robins

English Robins are a favourite of mine.  I make the distinction between them and their North American cousins (though I'm not sure that they are even related) because, to me, they are the essence of Christmas.  I have several (as yet unopened) cross stitch kits which feature robins, but I decided to make this small bookmark first.

I actually stitched it during the summer, but I thought that I would wait and share it at a more appropriate time.  Just perfect for my Christmas reading.

  1. Such a lovely seasonal bookmark. Like you I love robins, we have a one legged one visit us every morning for buggy nibbles and mealworms:)

  2. I miss real robins - somehow those north american imposters just don’t seem like the real thing!

  3. Lovely stitchwork. I agree: I love robins too. They symbolise Christmas and winter days in the garden for me. I've got several who visit my bird feeders, and I really enjoy their company in the depths of winter when I'm struggling to get things done outside. B xox

  4. VERY, very sweet!! The American robin is so very different to the English robin... the American robin, is I think among the thrush family of birds...so not as little and charming as the English robin. I'm American, but I love the English robin best. ;) ((HUGS))

    1. I think you are correct, Tracy. I seem to remember hearing that they are related to the thrush family. They have some much more character than the American ones. Marie x

  5. Gorgeous work. I think I once read that the robin is associated with Christmas because our postmen used to wear red jackets and so were referred to as "robins" colloquially, and there is such an abundance of post at Christmas, or at least, there used to be, before so many people went digital. x

    1. I seem to remember that too - it is a shame that the postmen are no longer so smartly dressed. I still like real post and not digital cards though. Marie x
