Pantry

I know that I have blogged about this before (I think that it was when we first moved to this house), but I dream of having a walk-in pantry.  My earliest recollection of a panty was of the one in the home of my grandmother when I was little.  I used to think that it was something of an Aladdin's cave, with all sorts of interesting and mysterious packages and usually one or two treats.

What we commonly refer to as our pantry is a large cupboard which houses some of the appliances which we use only occasionally, in addition to cans and dry goods, most notably cereal.  Who knew that we had twelve boxes of cereal in there, in addition to a huge bag of porridge oats?

It was high time that our pantry was organized, a job which I had been putting off for weeks.  Isn't it amazing to think that a job which I estimated might take about 10-15 minutes, actually took the better part of an hour?

Thankfully, there was only one stale box of crackers and everything else was still fit for human consumption.  Now all that I need to do is try to keep it this way!

  1. Is it wrong to say that I am more than a little jealous of the space you have for a pantry? I desperately miss having more space as our kitchen is the size of a postage stamp (think Rachel Khoo's Little Paris Kitchen but far less chic!) I know I watch shows like Barefoot Contessa and think.. 'if only I had that sort of space!'. Oh well, hopefully things will change for the better soon!

  2. We always had a pantry when I was a child with a cool stone and meat safe and a large bucket in which to place the milk bottles in cold water. I can't remember when we had our first fridge. I also remember my grandma's pantry where she used to store everything as she didn't have a kitchen just a wash scullery a huge cooking range and dresser in the living room. I cleared out our store cuppboard the other day and found one or two things beyond their use-by date:)

  3. Tash ~ I think that our kitchen is definitely short of cupboard space! I have far more to store than I have room for, so most of the area is fairly cluttered. I dream of a farmhouse kitchen....complete with pantry of course!

  4. Rosie ~ I can't say that I remember a time when my grandmother didn't have a fridge, but she did keep some cold items in her pantry. I don't remember much about her kitchen, but I think that it must have been a very modest space.

  5. Looking good there... and so tidy! 12 boxes of cereal??!! You like your breakfast cereal! LOL... Like you, our pantry is a big cupboard in our kitchen. I'm so glad it, as our kitchen is very small and where else would I keep all the dry goods, I wonder?! I recently re-organized our, as it was getting very hard to find things. I, too, dream of a walk-in pantry... *sigh*... Good to dream. ;o) Happy Days, my friend ((HUGS))
