Home Comforts

I'm missing my home comforts at the moment.  When we were in Ontario, we were fortunate enough to have A Bit of Home close by.  This Irish shop had a great selection of British foods and we took the opportunity to stock up (this photo was taken months ago and we've since used all of these).

Since we have been here in Prince Edward Island, I have been unable to find more than a few British products, as there are no speciality shops offering such goods.  I can get Tunnock's tea cakes in a local big box shop, but not much else.  In fact, I've just had to order Atora Vegetable Suet via eBay, so that I can make our Christmas pudding.

I do miss my home comforts and think it may be a long time before I have an opportunity to stock up again.  Maybe I should go and buy another box of tea cakes...

  1. I feel for you! In Spain I often miss having a ready supply of proper tea bags. Being Irish I like my tea the colour of creosote, and nothing over there comes close. B xox

    1. You can’t beat a good cup of tea. I favour Yorkshire Gold myself, but it is expensive here, so we tend to ration it. Marie x

  2. What a delicious selection of treats from home! Oh, I know the feeling, Marie. Living away from one's home country too, for some years now I've had to learn to live without certain things. I buy a few treats to bring back when on visits. But things in tins and such is not easy though, so there is a bit of a limit... LOL! Home things I can make from scratch, or try to--more like improvising. Still, nothing like those tastes of home. :) ((HUGS))

    1. We were spoilt for choice in Toronto. Now, it seems that treats are few and far between...Marie x

  3. You are SO British! You have made me think about the things I would miss if I couldn't get hold of them - Earl Grey tea is usually a problem, or any decent tea really - but I suppose I wouldn't really know what I would miss until I missed them, if you know what I mean. x

  4. I’m afraid that I am. Tea is very challenging - it is hard to find good quality tea. It is also true that you don’t really know what you would miss until you can’t find it. Marie x
